Discord’s global age-assurance rollout is causing account-status problems for some users, including incorrect age groups and mismatches between desktop, web, and mobile. Discord has acknowledged the status mismatch as an incident, while independent reporting has documented broader user confusion and access complaints.

What is going wrong

Discord’s system assigns accounts to adult, teen, or unconfirmed groups using account-level signals such as account age, connected communities and games, and general activity patterns. During the rollout, some users were placed in the wrong group or remained unclassified. Discord’s official status history also recorded an issue where a user could appear confirmed on one platform but unconfirmed on another.

That can affect access to age-restricted servers, channels, bot commands, and some safety settings. Teen accounts also receive stricter message-request and profile protections.

What users should do

Check User Settings > Account Status and compare the result across your current Discord clients. Update the desktop and mobile apps, then restart or refresh them if the status differs. Avoid repeatedly submitting verification details while Discord is still resolving a mismatch.

If Discord asks you to confirm that you are an adult, review the available methods carefully. Discord says its alternatives can include credit-card confirmation, app-store age signals, Google Wallet age proof, or a device-stored age pass, depending on region and device. Do not upload documents through links shared in DMs; use Discord’s own settings flow.

Why this matters
