Discord is investigating a new “Media Proxy Latency High” incident affecting image downloads, after a separate voice-call incident was resolved on September 10. If images are failing to load or calls are not starting, the problem may be on Discord’s side rather than your device.
What is happening on Discord?
Discord’s official status page says it is investigating high error rates for image downloads through its media proxy. The incident was later marked as identified, with a fix being implemented. At the time of this update, Discord had not posted a final resolution or root-cause explanation.
The same status history also records an “Issue with establishing voice calls” incident on September 10. Discord marked that issue resolved after implementing a fix and monitoring the results.
Independent community tracking of Discord’s status page also recorded the image-download incident and its first mitigation update. Treat Reddit and similar community feeds as useful confirmation of timing, not as a replacement for Discord’s official status page.
What Discord users should do now
Check the official status page
Visit Discord’s status page before reinstalling the app or changing account settings. The current incident is specific to the media proxy, so the rest of Discord may remain usable even when images fail.
Retry media after Discord reports recovery
Refresh the channel or restart Discord after the incident is resolved. Avoid repeatedly re-uploading files while the media proxy is degraded, because the upload may succeed without the image becoming immediately viewable.
Keep important conversations searchable
If you need an image, link, or message from an older conversation, keep a personal copy of your Discord data instead of relying only on live media delivery. This is especially useful when a service disruption makes attachments temporarily hard to access.
Friendcord can help you search your own imported Discord data package for messages, people, servers, links, and conversation context. Explore the Friendcord home page if you want a searchable way to revisit your own Discord history.

Bottom line
This is a confirmed Discord-side media incident, not evidence that every user’s account or device is broken. Check official status updates, retry once recovery is announced, and preserve important Discord history so temporary media failures do not block access to context you may need.
