Discord's mobile interface appears to be shifting away from the extremely round, pill-shaped look used across recent versions. New UI seen in the app uses tighter corner radii, squarer buttons, and more compact rectangular surfaces that may feel familiar to longtime Discord users.
The clearest examples are around the message composer, the new You Bar, notification controls, and bottom navigation icons. Discord has officially explained the You Bar and its navigation goals, but it has not announced a universal return to an older visual design.
What looks different in the new Discord mobile UI
The message composer is less pill-shaped
The message field still has rounded corners, but its shape reads more like a rounded rectangle than a capsule. The send control uses a compact squircle, while the add and emoji controls sit inside a tighter, more structured bar.
The You Bar uses a card-like shape
Discord's new identity and navigation surface presents the avatar, display name, status, and notifications inside one persistent card near the bottom of the app. In the observed UI, that card is wide and rounded without becoming a full pill, and the notification button has visibly squarer corners.
Navigation icons are becoming squircles
Some bottom-navigation icons now sit inside rounded squares rather than circles. The result keeps the interface soft while giving each destination a stronger boundary and a more app-icon-like silhouette.
Why the change can feel like older Discord

Open your profile and settings

Check notifications
Tap the bell icon on the right side of the You Bar. Notifications now have a persistent destination instead of being hidden behind another navigation layer.
Switch between DMs and a server
Swipe from left to right across the You Bar to move between your direct messages and the server you currently have open.
Change account or status
Long-press the You Bar to open the account menu. Tapping the bar and selecting your status also lets you update it from the profile view.
What Discord has not confirmed
Discord has not published a design specification saying that the whole app is moving to square corners. The exact corner treatment shown to one user may also change during staged rollouts, experiments, or later app updates.
For now, the screenshots are best treated as evidence of the current mobile UI direction, while the officially confirmed story is broader: Discord is simplifying navigation and trying to make mobile and desktop feel more connected.
Is the squarer design better?
