Discord server folders keep a long server list easier to scan without changing your memberships, roles, or notifications. Use them to group communities by purpose, activity, or how often you need to check them.

Create a server folder on desktop

In the server list, click and hold one server icon, drag it over another server, then release after a brief moment. Discord creates a folder containing both servers. You can drag more servers into it later.

Rename and color-code the folder

Right-click the folder and open Folder Settings. Give it a short name that explains the group, such as Friends, Games, Work, or Low priority. Pick a color that makes the folder easy to recognize at a glance.

Create a server folder on mobile

Long-press a server icon and move it onto another server icon. Once the folder exists, long-press it while closed to move it in the list. Long-press it while open to reach Folder Settings or mark the folder as read.

A simple folder system that stays useful

Start with three or four folders rather than making a folder for every category. One practical setup is: daily communities, friends and groups, interest servers, and muted or occasional servers. Keep the servers you visit most outside folders if that is faster for you.

Sort by the action you take

Folders work best when they answer a quick question: what will I do here? Put moderation or project servers together if you need to act on messages, social servers together if you mainly catch up, and quiet communities together if you only check them occasionally.

Move, add, or remove servers

Drag a server into a folder to add it. Drag it away to remove it. When a folder has no servers left, Discord removes the empty folder. Discord currently does not let you merge two existing folders into one, so move the individual servers instead.

Use folders with notification settings

Folders make noisy servers easier to find, but they do not replace notification settings. If a folder is for low-priority communities, consider muting the individual servers or adjusting their notification settings so the visual organization matches your attention.

Keep important mentions visible

Before muting anything, check what you need from that community. A better setup is often to reduce general message alerts while preserving relevant mentions or channel-specific overrides.
