If Discord places an account in Limited Access, it can feel like ordinary features suddenly stopped working. The restriction is intended for suspicious account behavior, and the useful next step is to identify the notice, understand what is limited, and use Discord’s review route if you think the restriction is wrong.
What Discord Limited Access means
According to Discord’s Limited Access FAQ, the restriction can be applied when Discord detects suspicious behavior. While it is active, you cannot join new servers or initiate new direct messages. Discord says existing friends can still be messaged.
How to tell whether your account is limited
Discord says it displays a red banner at the top of the client when an account is in Limited Access. You may also see a notice when you try to join a server or message a newly added friend.
What still works and what does not
Existing friends
You can still message friends who were already on your friends list. This is useful if you need to tell someone why you cannot join a new server or respond normally.
New servers, friend requests, and new DMs
Discord’s FAQ says Limited Access prevents joining new servers, sending outgoing friend requests, and messaging friends who were added while the restriction was active. It is not the same as an individual server ban or an expired invite link.
How to request a review
Use the “Regain Access Here” button in the red banner or in the Limited Access notification. If you cannot reach those prompts, use Discord’s support path described in its FAQ. Explain what happened clearly and avoid repeatedly creating requests or trying to bypass the restriction.
Protect your account while you wait
Review your password and active sessions, remove unfamiliar authorized apps, and enable the strongest account security options available to you. Do not share your login, verification codes, or session tokens with anyone claiming they can remove the restriction.
