Discord’s Profile Privacy setting controls who can see the detailed parts of your profile. If you want to limit who sees your bio, custom status, badges, connected accounts, widgets, or activity, this is the setting to change. It does not make your account anonymous, and it does not replace your DM or friend-request settings.
What Discord Profile Privacy changes
Profile Privacy limits access to your full profile details. Discord says it can hide your custom status, pronouns, badges, activity, connected accounts, bio, widgets, and wishlists from people outside the audience you choose.
Your avatar, banner, display name, username, server tag, account age, and mutual friends or servers remain visible. That means people can still recognize an account in a shared server even when the profile is set to Friends Only.
How to change Profile Privacy on desktop or browser
Open Data & Privacy
Open Discord, select the cogwheel next to your username, then choose Data & Privacy.
Choose a profile audience
Scroll to Profile Privacy and choose one of the available audiences. Discord saves the selection automatically.
Friends & All Servers lets friends and people in your servers see the full profile. Friends & Small Servers Only limits that to friends and servers with 200 or fewer members. Friends Only is the most restrictive choice: only accepted friends can see the full profile.
How to change Profile Privacy on mobile
Tap the You Bar or your profile avatar, open the cogwheel, then go to Data & Privacy. Scroll to Profile Privacy, select the audience you want, and leave Settings. Your choice saves automatically.
Profile Privacy does not stop DMs or friend requests
Making a profile private does not stop someone from sending a friend request. It also does not control direct messages. Use Discord’s Content & Social settings to decide who can message you, and use Activity Privacy separately if you want to change activity sharing without changing profile visibility.
A practical privacy setup
Use Friends Only if you join large public servers and prefer to keep your bio and activity limited to people you already know. Friends & Small Servers Only is a middle ground for close-knit communities. Review Activity Privacy too, because Discord can prompt you to align activity sharing with your profile audience, but the settings remain separate.
