Ignore is a middle ground when you want less exposure to a person’s messages without taking the stronger step of blocking them. It can make a shared server or group chat easier to use while keeping the relationship and your options intact.
What Discord Ignore does
Discord’s official Ignore guide says ignored users’ new messages are hidden in DMs, group chats, and servers until you choose to reveal them. Their profile and activity are also hidden by default from your view, and Discord warns you before joining a voice or video call that includes an ignored user.
Ignoring is not blocking
Ignoring does not remove a friend or stop the other person from seeing your messages and profile. You can still interact with them if you choose. Blocking is the stronger option when you need to prevent direct messages and new friend requests from that person.
How to ignore a user
Desktop or browser
Open the person’s profile or their DM, use the available profile menu, choose Ignore, then confirm. Discord says the feature is experimental and available only to select mobile, desktop, and browser users, so the option may not appear for every account.
Mobile
Open the user’s profile from a DM or another shared space, tap the more-options menu, then choose Ignore and confirm. The wording or placement can vary slightly by app version.
How to manage or undo Ignore
On desktop or browser, go to User Settings > Content & Social and find the accounts you have blocked or ignored. On mobile, open Settings > Content & Social, then the ignored accounts list. You can unignore a person there or from their profile.
Choose the right safety tool
Use Ignore when you want to reduce noise without cutting contact. Use mute controls for a whole server or channel. Use block when you need a clearer boundary. If a message breaks Discord’s rules or makes you feel unsafe, report it rather than relying on Ignore alone.
Keep your own context private
