Turn off sensitive notifications first
Mobile sharing can expose incoming notifications, messages, and other apps. Enable Do Not Disturb, close anything private, and check the screen once before you start. Some third-party streaming apps may also block screen or audio sharing.
If the screen-share button is missing
In a server, you need permission to stream. If the option is missing in one server but works in DMs, ask an owner or moderator to check whether your role has the Video permission under voice permissions.
Fix a black screen, lag, or no audio
First check that Discord has screen-recording permission in your operating system. Then update Discord, restart the app, and try lower stream quality or frame rate. On desktop, Discord also recommends checking hardware acceleration and using a stable connection.
Audio availability depends on where you stream
Do not assume a stream includes audio. Discord says audio capture is available on Windows desktop, macOS desktop, Chrome, and mobile clients, while Linux audio sharing is unavailable. Browser and app restrictions can also affect what viewers hear.
A quick privacy check before you go live
Close password managers, private chats, email, and files with personal details. Prefer the relevant window, disable stream previews if you do not want server members to see them, and tell viewers what you are sharing.
