Before you request your Discord data

Make sure your account has a verified email address that you can access. Discord sends the download link to the email connected to the account when you submit the request; changing the account email later does not redirect that link.

Discord says preparing the package can take up to 30 days, and you cannot submit another request while one is processing. Do not disable or delete the account before the email arrives, because Discord says that cancels the request.

When the email arrives, the download link remains active for 30 days. Download the ZIP promptly and store it somewhere private: the package can contain personal details, account settings, IP addresses, relationships, payment history, messages, and other sensitive records.

How to request a Discord data package

Desktop or browser

1. Open Discord and select the cogwheel in the lower-left corner to enter User Settings.

2. Select Data & Privacy, then scroll to Request your data.

3. Select Request Data. Choose the categories you want in the Submit Data Request window, then select Request My Data.

4. Confirm the request. Discord will prepare the package and email the download link to the address associated with your account.

Mobile

1. Tap your avatar in the lower-right corner, then tap the cogwheel in the upper-right corner.

2. Open Data & Privacy and select Request all of my data.

3. Review the available selections, submit the request, and confirm it. The package will be delivered to your account email.

What is inside a Discord data package?

The download is a ZIP archive containing folders and JSON files. Discord's current guide describes sections for account information, activity, Discord Activities, messages, servers, advertising data, and support tickets. The exact contents depend on how you have used the account.

Messages

The messages section groups messages you sent into folders for DMs, group DMs, and server channels. Channel IDs and user IDs help identify where each record came from. Message entries can include an ID, timestamp, text content, and links for attachments.

This is not guaranteed to be a complete copy of every conversation. Discord specifically describes the folder as containing messages you have sent. Messages you manually deleted are no longer stored by Discord and will not appear in the package.

Account and relationships

The account section can include your user ID, username, settings, connected accounts, active sessions, friend and block lists, notes, subscription status, and payment history. Treat this folder as confidential even if you only requested the export to find old messages.

Servers and support records

Server information varies depending on whether you own or merely joined a server. Discord warns that a server may not be included if you leave it before requesting the package. The export can also include support-ticket records associated with your Discord email.

How to open and search the package safely

Download the ZIP only from the email you expected, extract it on a device you trust, and avoid uploading the archive to random online viewers. JSON files can be opened with a text editor or browser, but manually connecting channel IDs to names becomes tedious in a large account.
